Dr. Carol Redmount, University of California at Berkeley
El Hibeh was first investigated by scholars in the late 1890s, and occasionally thereafter. UC Berkeley began work at the site in 2001. Massive looting and destruction of the tell occurred during the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and sporadically afterwards. This past summer, Redmount’s team was finally able to return to the site and assess the damage in detail; their work included photographic documentation, using robot prototypes to investigate limestone tunnels, survey and so forth. This talk will provide an overview of the site and its history and a review and an assessment of the looting and its aftermath.

INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF MUSEUMS
The International Council of Museums, in an effort to fight against illicit traffic in cultural goods, compiles the Emergency Red List of Egyptian Cultural Objects at Risk. This list aims to help art and heritage professionals and law enforcement officials identify Egyptian objects that are protected by national and international legislations.
